PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
